By review­ing exist­ing evi­dence, the team may learn that a link is not sup­port­ed, or that the con­nec­tion is between more spe­cif­ic ele­ments of the sys­tem. For exam­ple, an ini­tial dia­gram may link urban trees with air qual­i­ty. Assess­ing evi­dence may reveal that urban trees are only known to affect some com­po­nents of air qual­i­ty like par­tic­u­late con­cen­tra­tions and ozone, and the dia­gram should be updat­ed to reflect these spe­cif­ic links.
